StandBy and Always-On
What your nightstand shows at night.
In short
StandBy turns a charging iPhone lying on its side into a full-screen display for clocks, photos, widgets and Live Activities.
- iOS 17 or later
- Charging and on its side
- Always-On keeps it visible on supported models
What StandBy is
Put a locked iPhone on its side while it charges, and iOS switches to StandBy: a full-screen view for clocks, photos and widgets. A running Live Activity can appear there as well.
How to set it up
- Open Settings and choose StandBy.
- Turn StandBy on.
- Connect your iPhone to power, lock it and lay it on its side.
Always-On
On iPhones with an always-on display, StandBy stays visible. On other models, the screen turns off after a while and wakes on a tap.
